NASA Marsrover Perseverance vor dem Landemanöver
Update: Perseverance has landed! Die sogenannten "7 Minuten des Horrors" sind vorbei. Die Raumsonde mit dem Rover Perseverance ist am heutigen Donnerstag um 21.55 auf dem Mars gelandet. Ein erstes Bild vom Mars wurde bereits übermittelt.

Am 18. Februar 2021 wird die NASA die präziseste Landung auf dem Roten Planeten einleiten, die es je gegeben hat. Eine Raumsonde mit dem Rover Perseverance (Beharrlichkeit) im Gepäck wird etwa um 21:38 Uhr (MEZ) mit knapp 19.500 Kilometer pro Stunde in die Marsatmosphäre eintreten. In sieben entscheidenden Minuten bremst das Raumfahrzeug dann mit Hitzeschild, Fallschirm und Bremstriebwerken auf null, um den Rover um 21:45 Uhr (MEZ) an Seilen schwebend im Krater Jezero abzusetzen. Wegen der Signallaufzeit von etwa elf Minuten vom Mars zur Erde wird die Bestätigung der Landung frühestens um 21:55 (MEZ) im Kontrollzentrum der NASA im Jet Propulsion Laboratory (Pasadena, Kalifornien) eintreffen.

Neue Asteroidenmission zwischen Japan und Deutschland
Wie ist das Leben auf die Erde gekommen? Um diese und weitere grundlegende Fragen zur Entstehung von Himmelskörpern in unserem Sonnensystem zu untersuchen, startet die japanisch-deutsche Raumfahrtmission DESTINY+(Demonstration and Experiment of Space Technology for Interplanetary voyage with Phaethon flyby and dust science) im Jahr 2024 auf eine Reise zum Asteroiden 3200 Phaethon. Dabei wird das deutsche Instrument DDA (DESTINY Dust Analyzer) an Bord der japanischen Raumsonde kosmischen Staub aus der Nähe des Asteroiden sowie aus dem interstellaren Raum untersuchen. Der Kooperationsvertrag für die bilaterale Mission wurde am 11. November 2020 von Dr. Walther Pelzer, Vorstand für das Raumfahrtmanagement im Deutschen Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt (DLR) und Dr. Hitoshi Kuninaka, Vice President of JAXA (Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency) im Rahmen eines gemeinsamen Strategiedialogs unterzeichnet.
